Board-Certified Ophthalmologist And Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon
Dr. Waqas Ilyas is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreo-retinal surgeon of 17 years experience, who serves as the owner of Retina and Vitreous Consultants of Virginia, P.C. He also is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at George Washington University School of Medicine, where he imparts his extensive knowledge of retinal disease and management of these complex problems to young eye physicians.
Dr. Ilyas graduated with his M.D. degree from the prestigious University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and completed his residency training in Ophthalmology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where he served as a Chief Resident during his final year.

Professional Experience And Associations
He went on to serve for two years as faculty in the Department of Ophthalmology at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia where he taught residents in ophthalmology and surgery of the anterior segment. To further advance his training, he then completed a two year fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal Diseases and Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He moved back to the Virginia area after his fellowship in 2008 and established a retina practice in Winchester to serve the local and surrounding communities.
Dr. Ilyas was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. While having a strong loyalty to Pittsburgh sports teams, he has adopted local favorites like the Caps and Commanders as his own. He has lived in Virginia since 2008. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two children. When he is not practicing medicine or at a national retina meeting, he enjoys hobbies such as: working out, attending music concerts, and traveling the world extensively.
